TT .61 problems
I took my, bought used, Thunder Tiger .61 2S out to the field today. When I got it the intake had a crack in it so I installed the carb in metal set with a couple of sheet metal screws. The carb is an air bleed carb, I runs really good at full throttle, goes rich in the mid range and loads up and quits at idle even with the air bleed fully open. Tried a different plug, no good. I disconnected the muffler pressure and it did not change anything. Do these engines have a problem?

Re: TT .61 problems
Sounds like your metal set has plugged the low speed airbleed hole? I have one of those and it runs like a top.Mine is going in a Top Flight SeaFury that I am building.

Re: TT .61 problems
Jimmy P, It was a good thought but no I can stick a pin right through it. I have a Thunder Tiger and a Magnum engine of the same size and vintage, They are exactly the same except for the logo cast into the side. On both of them the intake is cracked in the same place, I suspect due to over tightening the carb pinch bolt. The carb fits my ASP. I am going to try it next.

Re: TT .61 problems
I am going to take a close look at mine and see if I can figure it out? Check there is a barrel spring in most that holds the barrel up tight to the main needle assemly if missing the engine could load up at idle causing the barrel to move over and let way to much fuel threw. Do you follow what I mean , the O.S. and Webra's all use this I haven't had to take one apart but sounds like the spring is missing. Let me know what you find. Jim.

Re: TT .61 problems
Thanks for your time Jimmy. It is an air bleed carb hence no spring and the barrel does not move sideways. I have the idle stop screw set for a very small slit at the top. I turned the carb over and the bottom is completely shut. On the old K&B green head we use to file a notch in either the top or bottom of the barrel depending weather you needed it richer or leaner idle.

Re: TT .61 problems
I have got all kinds of combat motors and broken motrs from swap meets with cracked cases and carb bodies that had RTV silicone holding the carbs on, and they all work great. Some even had chunks missing. Maybe try that after a cleaning in acetone or laquer thinner for a good bond. Otherwise, I don't know, usually the bottom hole in the rotating sleeve should close after the top hole for the airbleed to work at low speed. Maybe file a slot so it allows the airbleed air to come through. It isn't reversable though.

Re: TT .61 problems
I reworked the carb so the hole in the carb body is the same size at the top of the barrel as the bottom and the idle slit closes at the same time top and bottom. I ran it today and it really works nice. I also ran into another modeler with a TT .46 with an air bleed carb and it ran the same way.
