Re: LSF Canada

Bummer! (sorry, couldnb't help that one.)

I was an LSF member twenty years ago when I was into glider-guiding, but never even qualified for Level One. Shows how bad I was at competition and tasks... too interested in just enjoying myself.

However, it is a shame that the league couldn't last in Canada.

BTW, my gliding-derived nickname at the time was "Down-draft" -- I was the only one in the club to beat the hi-start drogue to the ground, but I was practicing spot landings that particular day.....

Any particular reason given for the shutdown?

An unfortunate loss in my opinion!

If I was to hazard a guess as to the causes, I would think it's because:

#1 we are all too busy to dedicate the time it takes to attain that level of skill and to be free to fly when mother nature co-operates! (that is my experiance)

This was something I was hopeing to get into at retirement!

#2 we live in a different world now! One of instant gratification! Witness the demise of building our planes & the surge in ARF's. I doubt that you would find more than a hand full of people nation wide with the attention span to stick with the program!

#3 if you could purchase a completed task, the organization would be flurishing but they have to be EARNED! We have lost the "pride in accomplishment" and have replaced it with a much more shallow "pride of buying power".

Just my thoughts on the issue...
Hang time does not apply to ceiling fans, light fixtures, overhead door tracks or basketball nets!

Re: LSF Canada

Are you talking about LSF or CSS (Canadian Soaring Association)? Brian Olsen out of Calgary was running that program and I am kind of dissapointed as I was on my way to get the diamond pin as I have already achieved the other three levels. I have a cross country ship all ready for the 10K flight, but spoke with Brian in March and he said that it was dead. Anyone out there willing to get it going again. I have plenty on my plate unfortunately.
