Here's an excellent example of how not to fly a quadcopter. Turnigy HAL with KK 2.0 board and Gopro camera. Damage to the quad was a bent motor mount which I bent back into shape. The landing gear was mangled so I cut it down and now it has stubby little legs until I can get some replacement parts.

Ouch!! Been there done that so I feel your pain It looked like you lost orientation as you turned back toward yourself? If you are new to flying multis I would recommend getting out to an open field for a bit more practice, after a while the buildings and trees stop jumping in front of you.

Cheers,
Geoff

Tried to comment on YouTube, but the mobile app cut me off, again.

They are easy to fly. If that had been your first flight on a 3D heli or a fixed wing, you wouldn't have lasted that long. You just pushed too far too quickly. Hover at 5-6', then do slow side-to-side, then slow 8s - all in a larger area.

It looked good and stable up until the crash.

British Columbia Re: Multirotor Pictures and Videos

Combination of things - flying too close to buildings and trees while rusty, and unfamiliarity with the aircraft. I used to have a Draganflyer in the pre-brushless motor days. Very stable when everything was working properly but very anemic performance. You couldn't loop and roll the things. That's not to say that I didn't crash it regularly though. I think I panicked a bit and overcorrected and that's how the quad ended up upside down before it hit the tree. The thing is very stable but I have to be more gentle on the inputs I think. Even though I've been flying mid size nitro helis for the last few years, there's still a learning curve to get back into flying quads. Slinging a camera under it while I'm still getting used to flying it probably wasn't the smartest thing to do either. Fixed it up though and got back into the air - total damage about $10. If I'd crashed a nitro bird like that it would have cost a couple of hundred at least.

One thing I had forgetten about was how easy it is to lose orientation when flying a quad.

Re: Multirotor Pictures and Videos

Guaranteed as soon as it warms ill be getting some
Miles on it no don't expect to be an expert right away it cost a whack so I really am taking it serious and slow as I want to really produce some good experience and results. It amazes me how much there is to know and it's been humbling allready but fun. I'm addicted and I haven't even done a voyage yet!!

Hopefully by mid summer ill be able to get some decent vids to share I have tons of great scenery here I hope to capture.

Re: Multirotor Pictures and Videos

I had my MK hexa and Sony 760 hadycam out today for a test flight. I made some changes to the stick inputs, to make them a bit softer. The results were not good, way too mushy and I was over correcting. Here is a 540 panoramic of Chippewa GC. Need to make some changes and back out.

Re: Multirotor Pictures and Videos

Here is my Spyder quad using Xaircraft 650 parts. I designed the frame and had it cut out by Dialfonzo. Using 980 SunnySky motors with 8" props for now. All in it is about 3.03 lbs including Gopro, FPV gear and 2650 battery. I am very happy with the way it flies and can't wait to really try out the FPV gear so far I have only been LOS
