Saskatchewan Radio choices: Spektrum DX6 or the DX7??

I was looking at getting a new transmitter as my old one seems to have a broken throttle. I was curious at what to get. I have narrowed it down to either the dx6 or the dx7. I only fly airplanes. Any help is great.

Re: Spektrum

I assume you are comparing the DX6i to the new DX7S... not the older models.

IMHO, DX7s is the better radio and the one I would buy if given the option. Don't worry if you don't use all the features as it will give you room to grow as your skills improve. You won't find the need to upgrade later on.

The DX6i is one of the oldest radio designs Spektrum has. It's been largely unchanged (except for DSMX) since it's introduction. It's still a fine radio, more than enough for even an intermediate plane/heli pilot... but it pales in comparison to the 7s.

The DX7S offers features not found in the DX6i:

- New Airware software is more advanced, user friendly, and upgradeable
- 20 model memories
- 6 programmable mixes
- SD memory card slot for backup and unlimited model storage.
- Optional telemetry (battery voltage, motor rpm, temperature, airspeed, altitude)
- Optional LiPo battery which lasts for months on a charge.
- A better overall 'feel' due to the design and construction.

I've owned a DX4e, DX6i and a DX8. The DX8 is by far my favourite. The DX7s is a very close cousin to the DX8 and I would expect it to feel the same.

Re: Spektrum

If you happen to go with a used one, steer clear of a DX6 (note the missing 'i' at the end) as they are older, unsupported DSM technology.
Current models: Hobbico Nexstar Electric, Parkzone Spitfire Mk IX , several micros/small helis. Nothing nitro/gas.

Re: Spektrum

Absolutely go with the NEW DX7. It is a less costly DX8, really only missing that Ch 8. It is a much better feeling radio than the 6i which feels cheap in comparison (especially the flimsy scroll wheel which is much better on the 7). The 7 has a better menu interface, etc etc. You won't regret it.

DX6, DX 5, DX6i, DX8i.

Re: Spektrum

The dx8 comes with 3 receivers now, 1 8ch with 1 sat and telemetry, 1 6ch with Sat, and a park flyer 6ch. For $450 +. I thought that it was a better deal than the dx7 IMO. Sweet tx, having a lot of fun with it.

Good luck on you decision

Re: Spektrum

Unfortunately the three receiver package with the DX8 is long over unless you find a LHS that still has one in stock. I have since 2008 a first generation DX7 and it is a GREAT TX. I can only imagine that the new generation DX7s is just more better. I also have a DX8 that has been flawless since purchased in Dec 2010. I can recommend both as good sport radios that will fulfill most flyers needs for a long time.

Re: Spektrum

I've owned a dx6i, dx7, dx8 and a JR 12X. I have to say the newer spektrum remotes like the dx8 are definitely a step above.

Re: Spektrum

My DX7 is also my favorite. I had it since 2008 as well and has served me very reliably.

I also have the DX8 that I love. The only thing I hate is the position of the throttle-hold switch. It is not easily reachable while flying heli's using thumb-forefinger.

And oh yeah... this is an electronics question so I moved the the electronics section

Re: Radio choices: Spektrum DX6 or the DX7??

Dx7 or dx7s for sure as it can handel everything up to a 50cc with ease. But after I found a used jr 9303 I'm hooked on it lol the new 9503's just have a backlight that's about all they did. I kept my dx7 for a backup

Just my 2 cents
