Thumbs up Before You Die --- JOE NALL

I've just returned from a week at Joe Nall and have to say this event just gets better and better every year for me. There were over 1100 regsistered pilots!

This year I stayed part of the time with a group of Canadain Friends on a section of the complex that overlooks the Huge Float Fly Pond.

Jim Bisson from Parry Sound, Karl Gross, Bill Swindells and Dave Cumming from Burlintgon and Helmut Schmitter from Oakville were all camped out together.

I spent the daylight hours mostly on the Clasasic Flight Line and browsing the Vendor tents for good deals. I'm not a 3D flyer but there is a large section dedicated to this group of flyers.

The best deal I saw was for a 95" 33% Yak from Thunder Tiger at $400 ( no tax or other costs) including a Carbon Fiber Landing Gear in 2 different colour schemes (they had five). I got a great deal on a 50cc Pilot Edge 540 in a neat Green and Silver scheme from Chief Aircraft with a huge discount that covered my camping costs for the week.

The evenings were spent with the Canadian Group sipping a drink and watching all of the huge foamie gliders decked out in bright LED lights. They were just beautiful with their bright reflections off of the water.

There were lots of 60% planes this year (one Cub on floats) that flew some impressive sequences. The noon hour show using Team Pilots from the bigger Vendors was a great treat and the Germams with their HUGE Turbine Sailplanes were unbelievable. If you are interested in seeing more visit the FLYING GIANTS web site.

I flew my 40% Decathlon and was pleased with the help I got from some very skilled pilots who helped me set it up for a better flying feel. Thanks a lot Chris for your patience and skill!!

If you have never been to this event, think about trying it once, you will not be disappointed, camping is only $15 per night! I told my wife that it was the "Best Holiday Ever" but unfortunately I did not get any Brownie Points for that statement. They even had a Wedding on Friday Night at the Main Hanger.

I hope that next year I can meet more new Candian Friends at the 31st Joe Nall event.

1100 pilots... wow

Do you have to draw times to fly?? How many different flight lines?

This would be my dream vacation, but the rest of the family doesn't think so

Re: Before You Die --- JOE NALL

These are the Flight Lines:

Classic Main Flight Line (where I flew and the pictures are from)
Huge 3D Flight Line
Electric Flight Line
Large Float Plane lake
Helicoptor Flight Line (not to many there) BUT the best Semi-Professional Flying was by a Helicoptor pilot who did things I can't even explain, just awsome!
Control Line Circles

On the Classic Flight Line, NO flying was allowed from 12:00 to about 1:30 to allow for the Semi-Profesional Pilots to fly, otherwise it was open to anyone. Usually at 6:30 am the WW1 pilots were all out when it was very calm. Up to six in the air at once.

Otherwise you just walk up to one of the 6 stations and wait your turn. Usually the wait was about 20 minutes, but often in the morning there was always at least one station available.

Go to the Joe Nall Web site to see aerial photos of how big the place is. They have free busses that drive from one flight line to the next.

The accommidations are suberb. The huge shower halls with over 40 stations in each of the buildings. Lots of Port-A-Pots scattered throughout the area.

This year they had a very large TV screen set up to show the weather radar so you could see if it was going to rain in the next little while.

I saw many wives, girlfriends, a few kids and lot of dogs there. And at a cost of ONLY $15 per night!

It's on my list of events for after I retire. Which could be next year.
