Why not? 72mhz still works just fine for my planes. Why not use it? Is there any real technical reason, other than "always an available frequency"? Some of it is pretty high quality stuff, was quite expensive. I've never had a glitch or a flyaway. And there's never anyone on my frequency at my (private) field.

Re: How are your antenna's mounted?

I am also on 72mhz with my quad, antenna mounted very similar to yours. I don't have any pics handy but the way I did it was that I drilled a hole beside my Rx through both centre plates of the quad. Then I hot glued a short piece of large diameter tubing in the hole, spanning from the upper plate to the lower.
I put a small hole about 2 inches up an antenna straw and fed my antenna in through that and out the top. I place the 2inches of the antenna straw that doesn't have antenna in it, into the tube that I hot glued into the quad plates, and lock it in place with a small screw.

Re: How are your antenna's mounted?

For simple antena mounting options look at it as you were mounting an antenna on a rc car or boat as they have hard mount locations for the antenna to pass threw using a tube.

Re: How are your antenna's mounted?

On helis that are still on 72 mhz I use a base-loaded antenna.

Mine are made by dean but I dont think they make them any more.

You can still get them from Horizon and thier retailers;

Failing that you can base-load your existing antenna by coiling it around a straw. There is a proportion of coil/whip ratio, so read up on it if you plan to go this route.
