SK450 Frame Overview

I got the new SK450 quad frame in from Hobby King today and started to do a quick overview with some pictures and general comments:

Overall looks like a pretty nice budget frame, seems better than the DJI clones. Hopefully it will handle well in flight and be decently durable. More to follow when I get some gear on it and do a flight test when time permits.

Re: SK450 Frame Overview

One issue to be noted with the SK450 is the flight controller mounting positions or lack thereof. The middle or traditional top plate of the frame has cutout sections that would align where most controllers would need to be mounted in a X configuration. You would need to create a separate mounting plate to affix to the frame to mount most boards on this level. The top 3rd plate does have slots for any size of controller however this rather defeats the purpose of a 3rd plate if it ends up holding the flight controller and thus makes it unusable for a camera or FPV gear and leaves the flight controller exposed and the middle plate unused. A related issue if mounting on the middle plate is the lack of height between it and the top plate, which may be an issue with controllers with vertical pin headers, as they will be to high to fit between the plates.

Re: SK450 Frame Overview

Great flying Marc looks good in the air. I notice when you want to loose altitude you just cut the throttle and let it drop and then catch it with props and throttle. I found out the hard way that was how to do it especially if its windy. If you just slow motors a little in hopes of losing altitude. The wind can now catch it and put in Hi speed wobble or even flip over . AsA friend of mine says what goes up must come down. Hopefully under ones control
