Unhappy OPTIMA 7 Problems

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!

I converted my Hitec Eclipse 7 to the 2.4 GHZ band this winter and I bought OPTIMA 7 Receivers to outfit my aircraft.

Due to time constraints I have only been able to fly Three of these aircraft this year and I had NO PROBLEMS...until I tried to test the fourth AC!

A month ago I installed the reciever and bound it to the transmitter - aligned all the channels and all functions were working well.

I am getting ready to fly this AC next weekend and... I have nothing but problems.
I am missing functions, the split elevator has only one channel working and the Transmitter indicates that it is not 'bound' to the Rx - the blue light is flashing and there is an audable beep/error code.

-I recharged the TX and the AC Battery - same fault.
-I Switched channels and AC - the problem goes away.
-IF I turn off the AC - the Error codes on the TX stop.
-I REBOUND the TX and RX - same problems.

I am of the opinion that I have a bad receiver - Is there anyway I can confirm this?
Can someone recommend another action? (Yes, I sent a letter off the Hitec - I'm waiting for their reply)

Life is either a daring adventure...
...or nothing.

Re: OPTIMA 7 Problems

You can try to bind the suspect receiver to another plane setup in the radio. Also check to ensure the radio is set to the correct transmitsion ppm setting.

Re: OPTIMA 7 Problems

OK Guys;

I finally figured out just what my radio problems were caused by – the batteries were not holding a charge.

Simply put I was getting a series of beeps from the radio – which I thought was a radio problem – no – it was a very good feature of the radio that was indicating a low battery situation.

As it turns out the batteries were dead! (4.8v NiMH 2000mah)

BUT they were NEW?!

My charger was not charging the batteries fully – BECAUSE! There is a safety timer built into the charger that stopped the cycle before the full charge.

As I could never fully charge the batteries – they eventually developed a low value memory and could not be brought back.

Now I have finally been able to increase the charge time and everything is working.

But what a strange sequence of events. The bright side is that I caught the problems BEFORE I went flying, so all I lost was some stick time – not an Airplane.

This is why we should all KNOW our NEW Equipment (new charger and high capacity batteries) and why we should always do our ground checks.

Happy Landings
