Going to FPV, should I upgrade Radio

I purchased a Bixler foamy that came with a Bixler 4 channel 2.4Ghz radio. I am now going to outfit with FPV.
I was wondering if I should upgrade to a better radio transmitter or if the Bixler 4 channel should work.
Any thoughts on this?

If the range is good, use it.

If you want to pan/tilt/zoom the camera four channels might not be enough.

It won't work well with a 2.4GHz camera transmitter.

Re: Going to FPV, should I upgrade Radio

I have a Bixler that I am using for FPV. It is a PERFECT FPV plane if you want something simple and compact.
Your existing radio should be OK if you dont fly it too far away.

Currently I am using a spektrum radio. You just have to be mindful of your flying position relative to your groundstation. I try to keep my range to within 1KM if I am flying with 2.4g radios, 2Km if I am using 72mhz. 2 km is pretty much as far as my spotter can see with the naked eye, so I dont go much farther than that at MAAC fields.

The FPV arrangement for a Bixler can be made very "clean" if you can pay attention to the wiring.

I have a 900mhz 800mw system on the top of the fuse and an Inverted Vee antenna imbedded into the rudder. This makes for a neat and tidy installation with almost nothing hanging out in the breeze. In this picture, you can hardly see any of my FPV gear other than the camera and VTX:

I am also using a Hobby King Simple OSD to allow me to monitor my on-board battery voltage. For 7 bucks it is a very good investment.

Using a 2200 mah 3S for motor and a 1000mah 3S for video/camera/OSD, I get 25 minutes of cruise flight, or 15 minutes of white-knuckled low-altitude high-speed flying
