Re: DA-60 Testing ( Taming the Monster )

You should post this thread on F/G I'm sure the guys there would really appreciateit!
So do you prefer the ES or RE2 and does one sound better or quieter than the other?
Also what ignition at what timing is the test chart?
Thanks Brian

wow Lorne that is quite a bit of testing when do you get the time to fly. was the engine set to the same timing in all the tests or were adjustments made on each pipe. I think every engine should come with a sheet like this .what a big help when choosing a engine. good job . Roger

Hi Brian,

So far the RE2 gives a little more than the ES pipe.
But as you can see. Drastically different header lengths.
I will be doing more testing with KS 1060 pipe next week.

But i havent flown with the RE pipe yet. So i cant give a full comparison yet.

The ES pipe has a cool sound. Also a bit quieter than the RE pipe.
The RE2 has that metalic ping being a metal pipe. The ES doesn't have that.

After that Trevor will be doing all these pipes on the Mintor 60.
then maybe again on the 3W 55.

If we get all that done. Maybe we can put everything into one large spreadsheet of data.

Re: DA-60 Testing ( Taming the Monster )

Very nice Brad!! So would you say 11" header with RE2 as a start for inflight testing??

Re: DA-60 Testing ( Taming the Monster )

Looks like the RE2 may be 100-150rpm stronger than the ES, eh!!!

Re: DA-60 Testing ( Taming the Monster )

Everything is with the DA ignition except the ES pipe numbers.

Those were done with an RCExel igntion set to 28 degrees.
But i did run it with the DA ignition before tearing it apart to change pipes.
The DA was set where they recommend it and i got the same numbers.

We did try moving the DA sensor a couple degrees. and the engine has the famous midrange burble. So we put it back.

Yep, but you have to cut the header and go shorter than what DA suggested.

I need to try the Vess and Beila at the last best length of 10.75 where the Falcon 24x10 ran.

Then we will see what the KS does.

I think i need to Order a Vess 25 B to also try.

Again Horizon is out of stock.

Im not ordering from Vess direct again.
$44 for the prop and $47 for shipping. That is one expensive wood prop.
Not doing that again
