I also had a GP Revolver. Fell in love with the drop dead looks. It was my third
RC plane. Perfect landing, gear comes out, wheel pants hit the foam wing, nasty damage, but repairable. I talked with a CS rep, same story, "send it back". I said its not possible, airplane is built. I ended up receiving some new epoxy, and wood to fix it. I rebuilt the gear area, put the Dubro heavy duty gear on it, and flew it lots more.

Now, before I buy anything RC related, I google it, look for reviews from other forums, etc. if a plane has 3 pages of user comments, and that plane has been out for 5 years, um, maybe it's a dud. If the plane has been out for a month, and there are 1000 comments, it's popular already.

My other GP plane now is a Sequence. Beautiful flying airplane, all with the recommended stuff, but the gear came out of it not long after I had it. I knew it was on borrowed time, easy repair, and all is good.

This is the way I've had pretty decent luck with purchases lately.

If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.

Re: Great Planes lousy customer service

I would be unhappy with that also if you sent pictures before the repairs and GP still would not help(expected but unhappy). I understand GP not wanting to cover the shipping , the hobby shop that sold the plane to you charged you for that in the first place and was the one that made the decision to bring it into the country and sell it here .after 35 years in the hobby the best advice I could give would be to buy only after inspection . if you cant inspect first, use glue only if completely happy with the kit (most untouched kits could be returned to the store) and expect nothing for help once glue touches wood LOL . I have had my share of this type of problem also but no sense me getting upset with extreme flight for doing the same thing any of the manufactures would do(have me cover the shipping) ,in no time at all you would hate all the companies .this sadly is the hobby industry standard and something you have to deal with if you are going to be in the hobby for a while.

Re: Great Planes lousy customer service

Or better yet, just build your own. Nobody to fault except yourself if a failure of a glue joint happens. Not saying your whining, just saying you always have the option of building your own, and also the satisfaction of same.
Yes, its a lot of work, but the feeling of accomplishment is fantastic.

Re: Great Planes lousy customer service

I have built three of my own. Great kits. This was just my first ARF, and it turned out to be quite the adventure. Learned a lot from this. Like stick to building my own or buying someone else's.
I really wanted to find out how unique my experience was. Sadly, it seems to be quite common, and among many companies. I didn't know that prior.
I will do a lot more research from now on. Won't rely on store employees. Won't rely on dealer websites. And will do much more preemptive work prior to flying planes.
And oh yeah, I still hate Great Planes though. This has thoroughly turned me against anything that company does. Others may be just as bad, but I can only speak to what I know and what I will do in future.
