So i just put together a wood field box and i want to paint it, what type of paint would you guys recommend for it? Im thinking its gonna need to be somewhat resistant to glow fuel as it will most likely get some on it. I was looking at automotive paint but I'm just not sure.. Thanks in advance

Re: field box paint

The best is epoxy two part paint , extremly durable , but expensive .

Next would be to go to an autoparts paint shop supplier , and ask about the K2 spray cans , it,s a two part paint , but in a spray can , also expensive .

I personally use Sico 585 , a two part mix , that I buy in small qaunities , but again expensive , but the most durable paint you can buy . It,s one grade under aircraft paint ,................. and it,s tough , I know .

Re: field box paint

I second the Tremclad.
I can't remember when I built my Red flightbox, maybe 1974. Red Tremclad.
Then only 2 after that both Black Tremclad. One the glue finally let go on the fuel can side. The other I gave away, early 2000's. If I was to build another out of 1/4 plywood again, Tremclad.
It will take a couple of weeks to fully cure to the point of fuel resistant (I say proof). But you could use it gently in a few days.
Others will have different suggestions. But I would simply use again what has proven itself to me year after year.

Hope this helps,
