Re: Cold or med plug

I have never chosen plug temp range based on ambient temperature. It's more about keeping a balance between a hot enough plug to prevent fouling at idle and still cool enough to prevent pre-ignition at high power settings. If you change your mixture significantly you may want a plug with a different heat range. Richer mixtures want hotter plugs, leaner mixtures want cooler plugs.

Electric flying is pretty much seeing how close to a dead short you can run without setting it on fire.

Re: Cold or med plug

I'd agree with Dave .... the current flying engines are .... .45*2, .55*2, .61*4, .75*5, .90, 1.20*5, 1.40, 1.60, 2.10 ... all with OS#8 plugs and burning Omega 5% (except the 2.10 it uses FAI) .... the only thing I change is mixture .... hot days a little richer .... cold days a little leaner .... for me as long as I see a bit of blue smoke in the sky .... I know there is enough oil getting to where it needs to be .... but that's just the way I see it ....
