Question Charger maximum wattage

Just got a Thunder AC6, which has a lot more settings than my previous 3cell charger. I'm a litte worried about going over the maximum rated 50W and frying my new charger. Do I have to carefully chose my amp setting to avoid going over 50W, or will it take care of that for me? For instance, can I hook up a 6cell 5000mah lipo, set the charger to 5 amps and leave it, or will that overload the charger?

Re: Charger maximum wattage

A smart charger won't let you go over the limit. So if you're charging a 22.2v lipo the max amp setting you should be able to put (theoretically) is 2.25amps.

I don't have that specific charger though so don't know what the programming will or will not allow.

Re: Charger maximum wattage

I read through the manual again, and it does seem to indicate that it will automatically reduce the charging current to stay below the maximum wattage, so I guess it's safe to put in whatever value you want, and it will take care of it.

The reason I ask is because the unit gets very warm ... usually after about 45 minutes the LCD display shows corrupt characters. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong, but I think it is defective. Hopefully I can get an RMA number.
