I own an optical store and i used the same dye that we use to tint eyeglass lenses.
Made losi rims black in about 5 min. also have blue red brown yellow and green
Using RIT clothes dye works too
follow directions on pkg
add to H2O heat and throw the parts in.
anything nylon like some suspension parts or rims get more flexible when they soak up water. this is agood thing the flex instead of break.

I was looking for Info on this as well.

RPM has a write up on how to...

This link if you want to leave the chrome on.

From the research that I have done, they say to use Easy Off (yellow can) or Acetone to remove the chrome from the rims. I was wondering if anyone else has tried anything (other than easy off or acetone) with good results?

Also, from what I have been able to find, if you are trying to dye the rim yellow or white, the Easy Off leaves dark spots that show through the dye. This seems to be the easiest way of course.

Any more info would be great.....

I just did a heli frame set. here's a comparison for you to see how much difference it made.

I went to the dollar store and picked up some Tintex fabric dye. it is very similar to ritt, which I have used before.

dyeing plastic, or anything for that matter is directly affected by
1. heat : things dye deeper with heat as it is a catalyst to the dye.
2. time : the longer it sits in the dye the deeper the color... a given
3. concentration : having enough dye in the water to work. read the instructions. if you are dying a darker color to begin with, it will take more dye to penentrate.

I boil water and pour over the dye. use a pot big enough to submerge the part(s). also put a rag in the pot to keep the parts from touching the bottom or sides. after putting everything in the pot, I put it on the stove to keep a light boiling going. this actually helps strengthen the plastic (really it does). check it every once in a while to see if it's done. you can take it off heat and let sit after too for even more color.
when youare done you can putthe mixture away to use again as it won't all be used up

more pics here...
