So... I just bought an RC10GT on eBay for $160, how long should I expect to wait if it's from US and how much extra shipping will there be?

Depends on how he shipped it (what service and what level of service) and where in the USA it is coming from.

If it's regular USPS and it's labeled correctly and has the decleration form filled in properly then it will take between 4-8 weeks.
This is based on my expereience over the last 6 months specifically (where it's gotten worse by about 2x from what it was before)

I know how you all feel, I had a video card come up from Maryland it was from a friend, marked as gift. Damn UPS taxed me charged me a ---- load of fees and when it got here the bill was for $250. I laughed my ass off at him, he looked at me all funny " arent you going to pay " NOPE !!! you keep it was my words.

Since then I get everything I buy from the US sent to a buddy down there who sends it to me USPS and I dont ever have any problems.

Anything, and I mean anything that is packaged in its original box, unopened, will be taxed. If it is wrapped in wrapping paper and has a card, it wont be. Most of the time.

If you have someone you know send it up to you from the states, and investigation can be done. If it determined that you dont know that person for whatever reason, mail fraud, customs tax evasion, fraudulant declaration.

Sending by Fedex, UPS, they kill you with a brokerage fee, the brokerage fee includes the taxes and levies.

If the product is used, but not sent as a gift, there are taxes and levis on the product, the taxes are base (if no price is included) on what the product COST AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. So, say this... you buy a 3 year old T-Maxx... time of purchase (today) you pay taxes on 539CND.

And the only way I have found to get around any of this.... no insurance. If you ship a gifted item with no insurance there is no dollar value put on the item. If you ship it with insurance, the dollar value is the insurance value.

Suffice to say that Customs boils down to this... you win some and you lose some. If you fill (or the other person) out the forms correctly, you shouldnt have too much problem.

If you buy with companies that send bulk to canada, you wont have much problem.

If you send and item (or have it sent) as a gift, tell them to put a wrapper on it. I am really serious about this, it does work.

and Finally, lets hope my friend at Customs in Windsor is the one checking everything, he just looks at something and say "meh, let it go"
