Its just google maps on a 3d sphere. The tilt thing doesn't let you truly see from an angle and its sooo comparable to the google map tech that I'm not sure what the advantage is. Maybe an exception to this for the caching of the maps that it does to speed up searching. Still, google maps are very cool all on their own.

Triggerhappy: Have a look at the bottom of the screen for a checkbox labelled 'Terrain'. The adds the 3d effect to the tilted view. I find the interface for Google Earth a lot more flexible. There are also a bunch of opens on the layers (lower left) that show more things than available on Maps. You can measure distance on Google Earth as well.
