well, once you sayd it stops then when you try to go again it just revs, the very first thing that comes to my mind is when my diffs blew. On my Savvy, both blew at the same time. i could see it not moving untill you nudge the truck or it rolls and the engine grabs the drivetrain and breaks a tooth on the gear you said was missing a tooth. so check inside the diff case.

i dont think that it is the clutch cause i think i would still move a bit but i would just rip the truck to nothing nd look at it all.

Once on my T-Maxx I had a problem like this, the diffs needed to be shimmed. They wern't blown, but once it warmed up they didn't really make contact anymore. It would run for a bit then stop after a while and just rev. I shimmed them a bit and it fixed it all up.
