The Hobao/OFNA Hyper 7 is a great buggy to start with. It's affordable, durable and it can be competitive, but I think that depends on a couple of factors, not just the buggy. You have to keep the buggy on the track and finish the race if you want any chance of winning. My Hyper 7 never broke when I drove it, only broke a front lower A-arm when some guy decided to hit me straight on at full speed with an on-road on pavement.

If you're looking at quality and money, I say if you have the money, go out and buy an already race ready luxury buggy, like the XRAY XB8 or Kyosho SP2, they're quite pricey but most guys say "it's a great buggy and a winner...I'm glad I spent $900.00 on the buggy alone..." LOL Remember, you still have to go out and buy a transmitter/engine/tires/tools/body(sometimes)/batteries/fuel to mention a few.

Of course if you buy the Hyper 7, there are hop ups available for it and you may end up spending a little less on the hop ups compared to say if you just spent on the luxury buggy, plus you'll have funds to buy a decent transmitter and aftermarket engine. All up to you and how much money you want to spend. I suggest looking in the 'For Sale' section or EBAY and checking out used buggies already hopped up to start off with.

Hahaha, I learned the hardway and ended up buying 3 buggies in 1 year all hopped to the max, well the last 2 were. I had the OFNA Ultra LX Comp, Hobao Hyper 7 Competion, Hobao Hyper 8 Stingray. They were all awesome and half the price of the luxury brands. They are now all owned by proud owners who spent way less than I did brand new!

Good Luck with your purchase and have fun!
