I have only broken a few things, but I'm not that hard on my equipment. That's what p ssed me off about the savage. Always broke but never abused.
I bent shock shafts after i started playing with the dampening settings. I would not recommend this. I found leaving them at stock settings or even lighter helped stop the bending. They only bent for me when I cartwheeled it during a crash. Understand when you have 25 LBS cartwheeling across the sod, something may break.
The biggest and most $$$ is when a branch grabbed the bottom skid plate side wings, and pulled the bodies side pods off, and broke the main body. I since have found not to run side pods on the grass. I also built a skid plate out of plexiglass to cover the entire underneath.
As far as the rear wheel rubbing the lower suspension arms, I bought wheel extenders for $25, and solved the problem.
HPI also had tire foam problems on there early versions. I had one with problems, but HPI sent out 2 new sets free!! They have been great to deal with so far.
Theres lots of upgrades and $$ to spent if you want, but I run the stock motor with a X can, and it is great.
Bajaforum is the site I use for lots of info and advice.
As far as spending that much $$, I look at it this way. The long run times, and ease of use, make it worth it for me. My time is limited, so fooling with tuning and problems is something I don't miss.
I would go through a $35 bottle of nitro with the 4.6 savage in no time. add that up over the summer, and see what the total bill is.
