Engine Will Not Start

I bought a 25cc McCullough from a friend. It's used. It started before but not anymore. I looked at the spark plug, it's fine, gave a well enough shock to my finger to know that it works, but then again it might not be enough for the engine. What needle settings do you recommend? The problem now is that whenever I put it on full choke and crank it shows no sign of starting and floods, bunch of crap comes out from the exhaust when I drain it but that's from the muffler. As I am typing this I am forming MY theory. The gas that I put into the engine came from another one. The other engine I believe requires 1:25 or 1:20 mix (homelite 25cc, someone probably knows better than me what it is). When I mixed the gas/oil for that one I didn't even measure but it ran fine. The McCullough on the other hand needs 1:40, which means I have twice as much oil than needed. I think the reason it started the first 2 times is because the gas was sitting for a bit and the gas and oil layered a bit cause the mix being dragged into the engine to have less oil? I should probably know if gas and oil layer after time since I took chemistry 12 but I can't remember. What is everyone's input?

Yes The McCullough engine Requires 40:1 Mix.....

I had the Same Problem with a Lawnmower Engine to Find Out that the Carb Was No Good due to Having Gas Left in it over the winter...It too also started up But wouldn't Stay Running.....

So What you might Want to Do is Change The Carb Drain all Old Fuel out of the Engine And Start Over.....

Thanks guys, got it to run, new gas/oil mix and the air filter was clogged restricting air from getting to the carb
