Another Baja owner question...

Looks like I'll be picking up one soon from Hobby Home but wanted to know how many sets of rear tires have you guys go through since you got your Baja. I know from doing some reading that the rear tires are prone to ripping apart so I wanted to know from you guys how bad the situation is?

Thanks again.

To keep your tires in good shape, try the following:
did i mention NO PAVEMENT??
avoid doing doughnuts anywhere - as much fun as it is, it shreds the outside sidewall.
corse gravel kills the tires unless you run in straight lines.
take the rear tires completely apart every few tankfulls and completely clean the tires in sunlight soap and water. dry them and then carefully fold over and examine the sidewall inside and out - find ANY little pinholes and tears and patch them with THIN ca glue - this works VERY VERY well - it will hold for the life of the tire.
oh yeah, sand paddles and street tires have been released from HPI - they work well!

You can also get adaptors which will allow you to mount either FG or Duratrax Firehammer wheels and tires. Either of those are much more durable and last a lot longer. Price-wise, the Duratrax tires are cheaper too.

The adaptors are made by Crazy Nut Racing. They also make a set to mount Proline 23mm wheels as well. Due to the weight of the Baja, I'd recommend the Moabs if you go that route. The sidewall is strong enough to handle the Baja and they've got decent traction.

I've got a set of FG Stadium tires for my Baja. If I ever put it back to together...
Any landing you can drive away from, is a good landing
