airbrush suggestions

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
so i went out and bought a small 2 gal compressor this weekend for a household project and now i have a nice little compressor just staring at me begging to be used so i figured no time like now to look for an airbrush.

any sugestions as to what i should be looking for and what price can i expect to pay for a 1/2 decent unit? i don't need anything fancy, just something that'll lay down the paint well.

thanks in advance

First, get a water trap for the compressor. Second, you can't beat the Iwata line of airbrushes. I love my Eclipse CS. You can get them from Currys in a kit with a nice long braided hose for $150:

It is a 0.35mm tip, but I changed mine to 0.5mm to spray the larger flakes. The 0.35mm tip and needle will cover most paints that you will want to shoot. This airbrush will last you and you will not have to upgrade.

The IWATA's are very nice... I myself have a Crescendo by Badger... it comes with 3 tips fine, med, Large...hose paint cup as well as a few jars... Dual action bottom feed. I am really happy with the results with it as well.

I have an Iwata CS, T&C Vega 2000 and a badger sg100. The CS is great for detail work or shading and fades(small). If you want to paint 1 color on a patch beyond the size of your palm it is a pain. You'll probably want to get a cheapo sprayer on the side or an airbrush with a bigger tip if you go CS. Something like a Vega 2000 (or anything with 3 tips) will be more versatile but wont' be as good for FINE things.

Basically everything is alright except for aztek!...

I picked up mine at Princess auto for 9.99. I have one for detailing under the hood of cars etc and they work good enough to do spraying. sure a lot cheaper than cans of paint. I stay pretty basic nowadays, can't be bothered.... besides plain stands out now with everyone going flashy
