B4 Diff Loctited and Greased

Well nothing broken...........

I just tore apart the diff on my B4 that I had previously bought used.

The screw that holds the 2 diff halves together had threadlocker on it to fix it in the T-nut.

Does anybody do this? Is this some kind of racer's secret trick?

Similarly the gear train was all covered in some kind of black grease. Way blacker than Associated grease, almost like graphite in some kind of suspension (key lock lube maybe?)

The manual says no lube as the gears are made of a self-lubricating composite material.

Again does anybody do this? Am I missing out on another speed secret?

Still wondering about this............

Help a brother out. Couldn't find anything on RC10B4.com

Surely one of the more experienced B4 racers has something to say about this.

There's no secret here Earl:

You should not need locktight on the B4 diff screw at all, maybe this person was having issues with it getting loose, just replace the T nut.

The gear train being covered in grease is also unecessary for the associated gears. You'll notice after use they build up their own 'lube' in the gears just by touching it you can see the teeth marks on your finger.

Clean off all that stuff, rebuild it as normal.. With the diff in offroad there's no secret just keep it well maintained and smooth.

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the response confirming that the manual is right and that the previous owner was wrong.

+1 Martin.

Putting grease in the transmission will create resistance, heat, etc... Not a speed secret.

Applying loctite to the ball diff T-Nut will prevent the possibility of adjustment which is not good.
