The normal TA05 (i.e. not the R version) used the TA04 suspension and they are a lot tougher than than lightweight suspension used by the TA05R.

I have had numerous Xray T2's and 007's as well as Tamiya 415's
I have to say that I loved the Tamiya's, but as far as all out cost to get the car foam ready, the T2 is way cheaper, and I have to say with my driving, i broke more parts with the Tamiya than I did with the Xray.
However, both are very capable cars.

Hmm, guess i'm out of my league here but i've been thinking of getting into onroad electric for the winter. How does the losi xxx-s brushless rtr kit hold up? You guys are riffling off some serious cars here.

It depends a lot on what parts your local track/shop support. But in that range, you can't go wrong with a tc3/tc4... the xxx-s takes a little more work and dedication to set up and keep it running well as it's not very popular and it's an older design. You may also consider the Tamiya TT-01 because it's a current model and quite popular.
