There were a few models in there. XB8, XB8R, XB8TQ then the XB8EC.

XB8 didn't have the extra hole in chassis for the lower one piece motor mount. the 8r was the budget racer, with e clips and more flew, also considered the rough track version. the R also could accept the lowered motor mount. TQ was the bling version, the the ec changed a few parts and motor location.

there's more but my head is still fuzzy from last night's fun

Absolutely! Now it depends on which old XB8 you're talking about. It's best to compare it to the TQ as it was the previous top-of-the-line XRay buggy. Here are the differences between the TQ and the EC. The EC has:
  • the engine has been moved towards the rear of chassis.
  • equal length center universal joints.
  • new radio plate.
  • stock 48-tooth spur gear.
  • shock tube diameter has been increased to 14 mm ID.
  • front shocks and front shock tower are longer.
  • New design front and rear plastic chassis braces.
  • new short shock boots.
  • stiffer servo saver spring.
  • new Ferodo "red" brake pads.
There's more too. But that's just what I can remember

The way they drive is much different too. The EC accelerates straight as an arrow!!! It feels more planted than the TQ. And with the bigger shocks it'll be better in the rough stuff than the TQ, which was one of the TQ's weaknesses. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best either. The conical hole shock piston help a lot.

The hot tip with the EC's is to drill 2 additional holes in the pistons. I'm going to experiment with 5 holes. The when XRay brings out the XB8 Mk II, it'll have the 15-16 mm Big Bores and the XB8 will rule the roost.
