I've had no problems with my 3.3 and have no problems tuning it but i can't say anything about the breakin because i bought my revo used. I am very surprised it still runs the way it does i launched it down a hill did about 12 rolls and broke the enginemount in 5 places, stripped a spur, bent my slipper assembly and had a huge chunk of dirt on my cooling head but the engine still runs great.
I have trouble keeping my revo on the ground

I have both only with the 2.5 engines, I bought the Maxx and added 4 wheel drive to it and loved it right away now I've taken the 4 wheel out of it and dropped the ride height and run PL road Rage tires and keep it on the asphalt. I bought my Revo not long after it came out and would much rather drive it in the dirt it is way more stable and seems a whole lot more durable then my Maxx. The Revo is bone stock except for the body and I havent had to replace any broken parts in a long time, the Maxx on the other hand seemed to break something everytime I took it into the dirt (thats why its now an asphalt truck). I just bash my trucks, the only races I am in are against my buddies, I would say go for the Revo if it were a truck versus truck decision. Sorry I can't say anything about the 3.3.
