Some Tips:

Make sure you have an up to date passport to streamline the process. You're going to need one eventually anyways.

A flyer of the race you are attending to show to the customs officer is worth its weight in gold.

Grit your teeth and describe your finely tuned race machine as a "toy car" to the customs officer. And whatever you do stay away from saying "radio controlled", that will raise a red flag for sure.

There is always a slight chance you will be asked to prove that everything you have on board was purchased in Canada, if you do OK on the first part hopefully your interrogation will never get to that stage!!

I'm sure others will have a few tips to add......

Sometimes it is in your best interest to not even bring your fuel with you.

If the customs guards check your car and you havent mentioned having the fuel, they (and this has happened to me in Detroit) may view it as an explosive liquid.

Very bad in the least I must say. They did take my fuel at that time, but seeing as I am North American Indian they couldnt deny me entry to the US.

So just in case, know where the LHS is where you are going, you might need fuel

In addition to having the race event flyer as Narly1 mentioned it is also important to have accommodation information (if you are staying overnight) ready to provide.
For example, hotel name, address, phone number.

Also, have one of your cars ready for show and tell.

+1 for Kevin's suggestion to not offer any extra information. They ask a question you give a clear and concise answer nothing else.
