Traxxas SLASH... My New Toy
So, I couldnt race the GLORCs today and I needed to buy some things for my RB5 and my new OS 21VG. The only shop open was Big Boys with Cool Toys.
This was my first time there and I must say I really liked it. I liked the service and the layout. But.... I wish I would have brought my g/f with me. I wouldve bought what I needed and left. Instead I bought what I needed and left with this: So, I will post pics of what was included, and after I get to drive it a bit, I will post further thoughts on this. Initial thoughts: At first glance I love it. Its so neat. And man it looks just like the truck in ExtremeRC Mag (the 1:1). Stickers, Shock Spacers, Tools: The Truck: Dual Rate Springs Front and Rear: Waterproof High Torque Servo (not too sure about this, I am not a fan of stock servos): Waterproof ESC (mud puddles anyone???): Side bumpers and radio box... I love the side bumpers, if you seen me drive you would know why!!!: Titan Motor: Awesomely realistic wheels and tires, are they any good though?: Drive Axle This truck is so realistic its not funny... I LOVE the way it looks: Pros: Totally RTR!!! 12t motor and it looks so cool! Seems to be very adjustable as far as toe, camber etc. Looks realatively durable. The side bumpers are a HUGE plus! It is so realistic that I can actually see my self pretending to be a baja racer :P Cons: Its a Traxxas. What does that mean? Crappy plastics. The fit and finish of the truck is great. Even the fact that its factory built, its still solid and screws are tight. But... its traxxas plastic! No bodies available yet from aftermarket suppliers. No hop ups from aftermarket suppliers (that I know of anyways). Finally... I am not sure where I can even race this... Sid's? Fastcats? But RACE IT I WILL!!! So as time goes on I will keep you updated as to my thoughts on this. FearFerretRC Team GTRC Racing - Owner/Team Driver |

re traxxas slash
i agree that its so realistic looking its hard to tell its an rc truck. i saw pics in rc car action and i also thought they were featuring a full size stadium truck .
luckily you can buy rpm goodies to replace the stock stuff. looks like a perfect candidate for a brushless/lipo conversion

Yes in fact Traxxas does have a 1:1 race truck. I am not sure of the standings for this year, but if I am correct they are doing fairly well.
As for being a good candidate for brushless..... apparently the trans is already set up to receive what Traxxas says "the meanest hottest system you can throw at it". Interesting... very interesting :P Anyways.... they say its waterproof... so I tried it :P. Yep its waterproof!!!!! What a blast this thing is for my first pack. It jumps well and handles pretty good on pavement. Wet grass is another story... grass is bad to begin with. Pros so far: Its a true RTR, just add batteries and go. Semi Programmable ESC with a "learning" mode. this mode sets throttle at 50% (boring). Race mode sets it at 100% with no reverse. (not boring). Handles small jumps very well. Very fun to drive. Very very easy to maintain. WATERPROOF!!!!!! Cons so far: Bottoms out very easily. It feels quite sluggish in throttle response. One shock has already begun to leak. Prone to flipping on tight high speed turns (i was only on pavement though). It acts just like a real truck, it rolls quite a bit on turns. So much in fact that the tires have rubbed the paint off the body. So far I am quite impressed and REALLY like this thing. I cant wait to get to a track to burn a few packs on dirt!!! |

My bud has allready dropped a velion in his. now it will actually powerslide.. handles very realistic but raise the body a tad as the wheels will rub the paint off the inside very shortly. I was driving his stock and found the body actually grabbing in corners. now with the brushless it doesn't get stuck, just cleans a wider path of paint lol

Nice write up, I've read up on this truck looks like a lot of fun! Would be a nice spec class if a few guys got em. Saw it at Galaxy Hobby too, Sure looks like a fun truck and the price is great. RTR
I was hoping we'd see a few of these @ Sids, can't wait to see yours go. Maybe put some lexan under your body so no more paint rubs off. |

Well... a few posts have been lost but thats okay. ORRC is back up and running and thats all that matters!!!!
So update: I have melted the ESC at Sid's Raceway (stock) with someones lipo. So I decided to buy a brushless system System: Mamba Max 6900 Battery: Venom LiPo 5000mah 2s So I will be hooking this all up today and now we get to see how the slash really runs |
