Electric motors take away all of the variables of tuning a nitro motor. Any nitro racer knows that tuning is half the battle. In my opinion giving electric vehicles mandatory pit stops still doesnít bring them to the same playing field. If electrics are going to be raced keep them in a separate class where they belong.
I'll second Derek's 2 cents on this issue!

Even I can admit that my nitro tuning isn't totally 'up to snuff' but it's NOT fair of me (or anyone else) to rally for electric because I can't keep my engines running.

I LOVE nitro and fully intend to learn the ropes regarding engine tuning. Hey, the "BIG GUYS" don't flame out and seem to run one hour A mains without engine failure, so why can't I? Experience!!!

Although electric is growing in popularity, there is NO replacing 1/8 nitro as the hobbies 'formula one' of racing. Some things are sacred, and the Winter Nationals should remain steadfast on there decision to respect that!

Lets start respecting the reeeeeeason we even got into 1/8 scale to begin with guys!!!

If you're asking why there is a time difference between sportsman and pro, the sportsman classes are suppossed to be for those who are getting thier feet wet and are relatively new racers who need experience. As such to avoid having sandbaggers in the sportsman class, their mains are shorter. Keeps ppl from just running the class for track time.
