Discovery Channel Canada's flagship science program, "Daily Planet", ran a prominent feature on the 2007 University Rover Challenge as part of a program focusing on Mars exploration.

Special attention was given to the science package on the Reno rover and the advanced stereo vision system on BYU's rover. All of the exteriors were shot with a red filter to make the whole report look Mars.
The first two parts of the Race to Mars miniseries aired immediately after the Daily Planet episode. The Discovery Channel will follow up the Race to Mars with another miniseries titled Mars Rising, with the following episodes:

* Journey to the Red Planet - Oct. 7th
* Rocket Power - Oct. 7th
* Staying Alive - Oct. 14th
* The Human Factor - Oct. 21st
* Six Minutes of Terror - Oct. 28th
* Search for Life - Nov. 4th
