We had the best turnout to date this season. Mike Barrett and Paul Nam made the trip up as well as our usual contingent of racers. Our younger contingent of Mike Hopcia and Josh Horton also came to race.
2WD seems to be dominated by the out-of-towners. Paul Nam adjusted to the track and took TQ while Mike Barrett qualified 2nd. Local Justin Williams started in the 3rd position. The B main was a good race between Rick Siller, the Milkman and Mark Smith with Rick taking the win and bump. Mike Barrett was able to get ahead of Paul Nam in the first lap and held the position the whole race to take the win by 2 sec. over Paul. Justin Williams had a bumpy start but was able to work his way back to 3rd.
The 4WD competition is so good that a 20 lap qualifier didnít even guarantee an A main spot. The top 6 drivers all had 20 laps and were within 3 sec. of each other. Rick Redmin was able to out qualify Justin Williams by 2/100 of a sec. to take top spot and Cory Pulliam got the 3rd position by 4/100. Mark Stetzel was able to hold off rookie 4WD driver Chicken for the win in the D main. The C main had Kevin McNerny jump out front on Rick Siller who kept it close the whole race but just couldnít get past Kevin. The B main was the closest driving of the day with 4 drivers finishing on the same lap. Mike Barrett started out in front but was passed by Doctor Drew a 1/3 of the way into the race. It was a close battle with Drew holding onto the win over Mike by less than a sec. Bump up Kevin McNerny was able to move up to 3rd. Rick Redmin had one of the most consistent drives in the A main starting out front and staying there for the win. Dan Bach worked his way to 2nd early and Dennis Himes moved up to 3rd in the last few laps.
Qualifying was close in stadium truck with Cory Pulliam taking the pole, Dan Bach getting the 2nd qualifying position and Tom Himes 3rd. The C main was a close battle with the lead swapping back and forth between Brandon Oddo and Nick Reger. Brandon moved out front in the last 3 laps for the win. Kevin McNerny and Brian Bellinger with a Losi (what some people will do for a ride..) had a close race in the B main. Kevin finished in front by 4 sec. to take the bump into the A. Mark Stetzel fell back but was able to work his way up to 3rd. Cory Pulliam and Dan Bach started out 1 and 2 in the A main and held those positions to the end with Cory taking the win. The move of the day goes to Paul Nam. Paul was in 4th behind Rick Redmin but right on his bumper the last half of the race. Paul waited till the last corner to make an inside move on Rick and hit the throttle to take 3rd by 6/100 of a sec. The crowd went wild watching the race.
There were a lot of Slashes out with Tom Himes taking the pole position and Brian Belliger starting second. Chicken came out with a new Slash and was able to win the B main over Jim Masurek. Josh Horton finished a respectable 3rd. 8 trucks started the A main with Brian Bellinger and Tom Himes swapping the lead most of the race and Brian coming out on top. Kevin Siller jumped out front early and was able to hold onto 3rd.
Slash Dash for Cash
9 trucks entered the Dash this week but only 2 kept on their wheels by the end. Tom Himes was able to work his way thru the fallen cars to take the win, Kevin Peterson drove smooth and steady for 2nd.
Notes from the day
The competition this year is off the hook. We havenít even started points yet and weíve had some of the closest racing Iíve seen in a while. Itís tough to recover from even 1 bobble. Like Drew said, itís time for a layout change to shake things up a bit. It was good to see Chicken with a new Slash and glad to see he caught the 4WD bug. Kevin Peterson continues to improve each week with his ZX5 and Dave Craiglow with his B44. Itís great to see Josh Horton and Mike Hopcia make it back out again and getting better each race. Paul Nam and Mike Barrett always raise the level of competition when they visit. Glad to see Tom Himes found his truck so Janice could race with us.
Thanks again to everyone who came out and we hope to see you all again soon.
