Well the holidays brought out the racers as we had the biggest crowd yet. It was good to see some people bring out their new Christmas presents. There were a few new cars and some new equipment in the pits. Thanks to the guys from the Rochester area making the trip to the track, there was even a Nelson sighting. It was also great too see several new guys giving racing a try.
Kyosho RB5s dominated qualifying with Zack Myers taking TQ, Doctor Drew 2nd position and Scott Cimato 3rd. Fortunately Dan Black had his B4 out to help the Associated cause. Zack and Drew were battling for the lead during the first part of the race while Dan was working his way thru the field. Dan was finally able to get around Zack and Drew and held onto the #1 spot for the win. Drew was able claim 2nd and Zack finished a solid 3rd.
4WD racing had become the popular class with 25 cars and everyone keeps improving each week. A lot of the racers saved their best qualifier for the last round with the top 12 guys getting 20 laps. Dennis Himes was able to set TQ early and kept it thru the final round. Brian Bellinger was 1 sec. behind for the 2nd spot and Kevin McNerny had a great last qualifier to take the 3rd spot. The Milkman and Randy Tredway had a close battle in the E main with Milk keeping his composure and taking the win. Milkman continued his run in the D main working thru the field and giving Mark Stezel a run for the lead. Mark was able to stay in front for the win with Milk 2nd just 1 sec. in front of Kevin Siller. The C main finished close to the way it started with Kyle Inman taking the win and Dan Black a close 2nd. Zack Myers finished on the same lap in 3rd. The 4WD B main was the race of the day with all 6 drivers finishing less than 8 sec. apart. Positions kept switching every other lap. Kyle Inman made the best of his bump up to also win the B main. Bihn Quan finished a close 2nd and Dan Black worked his way up to 3rd. The A main started with a change in most drivers position after the first lap. Dennis Himes stayed out in front but Brian Bellinger fell all the way back to 5th. Kevin McNerny fell back to last at the beginning of the race but had a good battle with Cory Pulliam and moved into the 3rd spot on the last lap. Brian picked his way thru the field and was able to catch up and pass Dennis half was into the race. Dennis kept applying the pressure but Brain was able to maintain his lead for the win with Dennis finishing on the same lap in 2nd.
There were 3 full heats of stadium truck with Cory Pulliam taking TQ spot with the only 19 lap qualifier. Tom Himes and Kyle Inman qualified less than 1 sec. apart to take 2nd and 3rd position. The C Main saw Brian Baumeister adjusting to electric and taking the win over Bill Defranco. Jim Mazurek finished on the same lap in 3rd. Shawn Richards started the B main out front and was able to stay there until Mark Stezel was able to overtake him mid-race. Mark stayed kept his lead for the win with Shawn only 2 sec. behind for 2nd. Nick Reger finished a respectable 3rd. The A main ended much like it started with Cory Pulliam taking the win over Tom Himes by ½ a lap. Kyle Inman maintained his position for 3rd place.
The Slash class is a good mix of new and experienced drivers. Tom Himes was able to get in another 18 lap qualifier to take TQ. Brian Bellinger qualified in the 2nd spot and Shawn Richards stepped up his game to take the 3rd spot. 4 year old Kyra Bach, co-driving with his dad Dan, was able to win the B main. Kevin Peterson was able to hold on to 2nd place and Bill Defranco worked his way thru some early traffic to take 3rd. The A main finished much like qualifying with Tom Himes, Brian Bellinger and Shawn Richards taking the 1 – 3 spots. These guys have learned that clean and smooth is the way to win in Slash.
Notes from the day
4WD just keeps getting more exciting each week, 20 laps was only good enough to get you in the C main so a sec. here or there really counts. Zack Myers had an almost perfect lap in 2WD with a 14.4. He keeps doing that and we are all in trouble. Mark Stetzel took the bump-up award doing it in both 4WD and Truck. It was great to have 3 qualifiers of Slash, we hope more people come out to give this class a try. Anthony Muscato continues to do well in 4WD with his XXX-4, image what he could do with a real car. The elevation change on the back straight is a blast. It’s a riot seeing wheelies half way down the track. Again, it was great so see the guys from Rochester and PA who took the extra time to come race. It was also nice to see some new people giving the racing thing a try.
Thanks again to everyone who came out and we hope to see you all again in the New Year. Remember, points start next week!
