Alongside the cleaning aspect, another useful piece of information is related to the mask's fit; in order for the mask to actually provide you the protection you seek, you will need to be clean shaven.

Having a clean shave will ensure that the mask is seated properly.

As for the appropriate filter; most masks (or manufacturer websites) will have a chart indicating the appropriate filter for the application. The 3M website is a good start.

Regarding the cleaning: you can get ring worm, etc.
