I was watching some footage of the top pro offroad driver and noticed they are not using 2.4g radios system.
What are they using and why not 2.4g?

If they aren't using 2.4 then it's FM. I doubt any pro is using AM but I could be wrong. Now, why they aren't using 2.4? Well, chances are when they started in the hobby they used FM because 2.4 wasn't around yet. They like it, are use to it and have no problems with it so why switch? 2.4 is great for club racing or bashing where the freq isn't checked as often as it should be like at a top pro race. This doesn't mean a top pro couldn't use 2.4 and still drive a tin can better then most us us can drive our fav ride. Just because a pro isn't using 2.4 doesn't mean you can't and win...or better yet have fun with a you don't have to worry about anybody else being on your channel and wrecking your ride.

sponsorship is one reason.

They have also probably been using it for a long time and find it reliable and consistent.

I think its just a personal preference thing, most of them have been using fm radios for years, so why change. pretty much all of the companies have their own 2.4ghz system out now so any of those guys could easily switch. Look at atsushi hara, he won the worlds using a 4pk, which only comes DSM.

Good question bud. In fact, it's one I've asked a few times myself. The truth is the 'response time' is quicker for an FM transmitter, but with Spektrum's new DSM2 technology, they are almost on par with one another now!!! Watch for an ever increasing amount of DSM at the top levels of RC.

Additionally, the frequencies some of these drivers are using have been with them for years, and as an example, fellow racers have just come to know that Adam Drake is on (OWNS) channel 79. The list goes on and on, and there may even be some 'frequency ownership and good luck' issues at hand. The very fact that so many pro drivers use crystals is the reason they still don't allow transmitters in the pits at large events either.
