Blade MCX Runaway

My son got a Blade MCX for Xmas and has used it everyday since then. Yesterday, the winds were calm so I told him he could try it outside. He got it off the ground and it just took off out of control. It hit some small branches of a tree and came crashing down. The crash broke the flybar off but the 5 in 1 unit was smoking. Needless to say it's dead. He was using the Eflite battery.

I think the 5 in 1 unit died and caused the runaway. Think Horizon would warranty this or am I in for a $80 replacement part?
