electric 1/8 scale has become more popular with the advances in battery technology ,specifically lithium polymer batteries.

you can get over 30 minutes runtime in an electric buggy, truggy or monster truck with certain types of lipo batteries.

with an electric you have less maintenance than a nitro rc. no fuel to buy, no glow plugs, clutch parts, no engines to re pinch etc....

costwise initially the electric will cost more with the addition of decent lipo batteries, charger, balancer etc.. but in the long run the nitro will end up costing you more.

obivously with a nitro you can just keep putting fuel in the tank and continue running for hours where in an electric you will have to change batteries.

i run both nitro and electric but some guys prefer the sound, smell and tuning aspect of running a nitro where others hate the smell, the tuning and the noise . as to which is faster the electric will have the potential to go faster as the brushless motors can turn some crazy rpms compared to a nitro engine but in the end its driver skill which determines who wins imo.

with electric you have a choise of how fast you want to go, in most cases in racing they are relitively equal in the same class.

With nitro as far as i know (i only race elictric so please corect me if i am wrong) the racing engines are around the same power so you are realy limited to your gearing and pipe.

With electric you are also mostly limited in moters because there is a specific motor turn for the size of the track and also mostly limited to gearing. In terms of ashing electric can be faster becauseyou can get motors that can have an rpm rating of up to as far as i know 85,000.

So it realy depends on what you are doing.

The Castle 9000kv motor spins up to 100,000 rpm.
Not usable on a track, but, if you are into speed runs....

And then there's gassers!! Run for 40 minutes on $0.50 of fuel.

Pros and cons with every setup. It really depends on where and what you want to run as well as the number one much you want to spend.
