Hi Ron

I've the local shops involved and they're helping by distributing information and fully supporting the venture. They've got their fingers crossed for us!

I checked out the MacLennan Park today. It's a big park with a big hill in the center. It was just a big hill a few years ago, but there have been some developments done on it like pathways, a parking lot and a bmx track area.

There's lots of room for anything there including a race track...There were 2 paid maintenance crew working on the bmx track while I was there. Wouldn't it be great if they could come over to our hypothetical race track and groom it once a while! ...

The main park entrance and parking lot is on Ottawa St. Tim Horton's is across the parking lot. The park address itself is 861 Ottawa St South.

(I was impressed with the bmx track...looks interesting. I might try it out one day if I feel courageous and crazy enough)

Hi everyone, I just came across this thread while "googling" R/C track, Kitchener.

After reading up on what's going on, I'd like to volunteer to help out in any way possible in the movement towards creating this venue. I've actually been out to McLellan park several times with my OFNA LX Comp, and always thought it was the perfect spot.

If you're looking for more volunteers, I think getting the word out that we're trying to build this track is vital. Really get the R/C shop owners in town to sell (or at least mention) this project to everyone who comes in their stores.

Let me know what I can do to help. In the meantime, I'll keep posted to this site, and stay up to date on what's going on.

Did anyone ever consider getting a hobby shop to be REALLY involved.... they will profit from a track in a huge way ask them to ante up some MORE support not just promotion.. Build a track to race the bashers wont come if they have to pay a toonie to play they will find a place for free. we built a tack in Orangeville and it sits growing over with grass because once we formed a club and charged a whole 50 a year no one came out so the club has folded and the lease with the town has gone and the insurance has expired so now maybe it will take off again now that its free. too bad it was big enuff for 1/8 scale and has a decent crawler course too with Hobby Shoppe on the premises... Now if the Hobby Shoppe was involved and really wanted to make a go of it he would be promoting races and even bash sessions as it would easily increase the sales by a large $$$$$. but they dont have the staff or time to do it.

The local hobby shops have no interest in opening or running a local track. It's generally considered a losing venture. No doubt it will attract people to the hobby but it needs to be staffed and taken care of and that costs money and time. I've gone to three local stores and have indicated they will support a local track by posting flyers and getting the word out but that's as far as they are willing to go. Once the track starts up, the local stores said they would donate banners and swag, which is great but we can't get to the starting gate with this so far. There are not enough people willing to show support. This isn't to downplay the efforts of those that have come forward but unless more people get involved ( a LOT more) this will not happen in a city supported venue.

If we start looking at other options, Erbsville Kartway has indicated they would consider putting a track in (i've emailed Steve at EK and he's interested) as has Chicopee Ski Hill (though i've only heard this - i have not spoken to them directly). Obviously there would be a charge to run your vehicles but that's to be expected. I also doubt it would be staffed other than a kiosk where you would sign in for frequency and payment so unless a club managed race nights, you'd be running out to flip your vehicle over unless some of your fellow RCers decided to marshall for unnofficial race days or bashing sessions.

As far as starting a club goes...we seem to have one. Approximately 45 people so far though I have not heard from many since some of the original postings and emailings.

We'll have to see how this goes though i'm not going to push for this for years. If it's obviously not a go through the summer, i'll post about our options (which are pretty much listed above) and have the "club" decide what they want to do. I'll then do my best to help make it happen (with all the support i can get!).
