In response to inquires regarding what's happening with Sid's Raceway for this upcoming season:
1. The concept of a volunteer "track committee" has been abandoned. It has become fairly clear that this model no longer works. At present, most hobbyists seem to prefer paying more to use a facility rather than doing some of the work themselves in order to keep user fees low.
Landscaping is a core competency of the garden centre and their staff. They also have better access to the kinds of equipment required to properly maintain the facilities. As such, all track maintenance and grounds keeping activities will become the sole responsibility of the garden centre. Any concerns or comments with respect to surface conditions, etc. should now be directed to the garden centre owner, Mr. Imtiaz Mustapha. The garden centre will have a heightened interest in the condition of the track as they will be directly responsible for its condition and the corresponding revenue it generates.
The timing and PA systems have been sold to three former members of the track committee, Ian (oneten), Jim (BUGNUT) and Earl (Narly1). Their new venture will be called Race Timing Services or (RTS for short).
RTS will be responsible for:
-Track design and layout. RTS will lend their expertise in this regard and will work with the garden center as far as implementing these changes. The bulk of actual physical work will be performed by garden center staff.
-Scheduling, promoting and staging timed practice and (eventually) race events.at the track. RTS will collect a fee for these activities separate from the track usage fees paid to the garden centre.
-Minor track maintenance and prep on event days.
Watch for for exciting news from RTS regarding upcoming events at Sid's Raceway. We anticipate supporting the following 1/10th offroad classes:
2WD (open) and 4WD (open) buggy
2WD (open) and 4WD (open) short course
2WD stadium truck
2. Note that 1/8th-E usage is no longer permitted at Sid's Raceway. There are other local venues better suited for this activity and the damage caused to the track surface by these larger vehicles is incompatible with 1/10th scale activity.
3. Negotiations are also underway with a food concession to set up a kiosk on site. More on this development as it becomes available.
We look forward to seeing you all again this season, thanks in advance for your support.
