I'm looking for some insight on the wonderful world of brushless power.
I have a sidewinder system witch does not use a sensor, can I use a NOVAk or ORCA 21.5 sensored motor with that speedo? will it cog? will it fry the motor or speedo?

yes you can, it will work the same. you just can't run a motor without a sensor on a sensor ESC

That would be incorrect, you can run a sensorless motor on a brushless ESC as long as it supports dual drive which most of them do. The other way around can be a little tricky depending on the motor but shouldn't burn anything out, just might not run very well.

ALL sensored brushless motors can run in sensorless mode.
MOST sensored ESCs can run in sensorless mode, but not all. Most will do this so that if your sensor wire comes unplugged part way through a race, you will still be able to finish the race without the sensored benefits (smoother power delivery, electronic timing advance, etc.)

I know of a few Sensored ESCs that DO NOT allow you to run sensorless... the Novak Havoc Pro SC comes to mind.

To answer the OP, I see nothing in Castle's info saying that it does not support sensorless motors. You should be fine to run a Sensored motor in sensorless mode until you can get the $$$ together to get a sensored ESC.

It won't run any worse than a sensorless motor on the same ESC would, so you might get some slight cogging but it shouldn't be bad.
