Oh, and so you know how I'm "suffering" here, this is my outdoor work area for fiberglassing, lemon and palm trees in the background, ohhhh, the inhumanity 😎 Oh yeah, and a beer fridge full of ice cold beer, ya just gotta like it, and would you believe, Ted refuses to come here for a FREE vacation.......what's with that, huh. 😊

Re: Re-starting Avro Arrow build

Couldn't wait til tomorrow, the tail cone stinger was hard and I just had to see how it turned out. Trimmed the base on the bandsaw and with a blade and hammer gently taped the blade between the base and the fiberglass flange. And it easily piped off.
The mould looks very nice inside, only the outside flange need a little TLC, mostly cosmetic really, but I'm fussy. Looking forward to laying up a part this weekend, if I can find the time.

Re: Re-starting Avro Arrow build

Very funny Brad, I do have a list of guys who had expressed that they wanted one, you are on it, just behind Ted.

Started applying the fiberglass mat today at 7 in the morning before the heat and it certainly helped with the resin not kicking off so quickly. But had to wait until after lunch to put the last layer of mat on, using yogurt containers to mix up the resin, in the heat, gives about 10 minutes. If I use less resin, then it doesn't seem to kick off at all.

Oh well, three moulds are made, tomorrow morning, I'll trim the moulds and attach the plywood spreaders so the mould won't deform.

I have no doubt Peter your's would be done before Ted's, you just have to add it to your retirement build behind the other 20 or so build to do, you know I could help you by taking the F-5 or the 104 or the Fouga off your hands.LOL maddog

Re: Re-starting Avro Arrow build

That jet rally photo brought back some memories. I drive past Mountainview airport (detachment of CFB Trenton) all the time. In the picture background were the original 1940's hangers. The last one was demolished just two weeks ago. History gone. You can still see some at the airport in Picton (used as factories and storage facilities). A piece of aviation history.
