Re: Re-starting Avro Arrow build

Quick update, the main fuselage is blocked up on the work table. The separation line has been defined and the parting boards cut and fitted. After lunch, I'll seal the parting boards to the side of the fuselage with bondo.

Re: Re-starting Avro Arrow build

Parting boards sealed, two coats of wax, two coats of Partall. Will let it setup this afternoon before applying the first coat of gelcoat. The messy fun will soon begin.

Re: Re-starting Avro Arrow build

Why didn't I think of this before, an inexpensive 8' X 8' sun shelter, Home Depot $79.00. Hung a couple of cargo blankets and I have a neat outdoor work area and not getting baked. Also, the gelcoat and resin will be nicer to work with, won't cure as quickly.

Anyway, the first of two coats of gelcoat has been applied and it's only 8:00 a.m., later today, the second coat.

Re: Re-starting Avro Arrow build

given the size of the mold...did you form some ribs,to prevent deformation,or are you going to cover some stringers over the result?

Re: Re-starting Avro Arrow build

He will cut stations after the mould has cured before its seperated that will give support to the mould and minimize shrinking over time and when flipped over will act as a stand to stabilize the mould for lay up
If you attach the ribs before it cures you will see them in the mould like ribs on a horse is the best way to describe it
