Well, after a lot of elbow grease and water, I finally got the main section of the fuselage done to a 320 grit finish. This part is 77" in length. Next will be laying out the panel lines and then get to the scribing. Because the master plug is made from pine, it is fairly easy to scribe the lines, the vertical fin however, is a balsa covered foam core, so this method cannot be done this way. The balsa, being very soft, collapses when you try scribing on it. It will have to be done using the 1/32" wide chart tape and polyester primer.

Anyway, I'm quite happy about the way the bottom turned out, I believe I captured the proper contours.

Re: Re-starting Avro Arrow build

Two evenings of work and the top, bottom and the vertical lines on the sides are drawn on the master plug. Should have it ready for scribing tonight. Was very pleased that the markings and the master plug actually aligned up.

After doing some thinking while drawing, figured I'd make the twin air brakes functional, look pretty straight forward, will pair the two up with a hefty torque rod to operate off one strong servo.

On the surface of the weapons pack, there are 29 very small round panels, most photos show this area to be nice and smooth, but I have one photo that shows they actually seem to be proud of the surface as you can see them. I think they were hard points for mounting equipment in the bay. Anyone know for sure. I'm going to add this detail to the plug as they can be sanded off if not needed.

Re: Re-starting Avro Arrow build

The main fuselage section is finally done, panel lines have been scribed as accurately as I could do them. I had to make a long roll around table to do the moulding on as my work table in the workshop is only five feet long. Plus, I'll be making the moulds outside so I will not stink up the house, gotta keep the wife happy.....

I am now working on the nose section, this morning I did the final rough sanding and presently, two coats of resin have been applied. Later tonight, I'll block sand it smooth with 100 grit sandpaper and brush on another coat of resin.

Re: Re-starting Avro Arrow build

Hey there JC. Well I booked a room at the fancy hotel for the upcoming event, but it all depends on things at home. I was even hoping to bring the first moulded parts to the event to display them and get advise from the guys.

But if it turns out family obligations need to be met, then I'll post that and give my room up for someone else to use.

Oh, if I attend, I have a framed print for you of your favorite aircraft, I just don't have room for it anymore.

Re: Re-starting Avro Arrow build

Got the panel lines mapped out on the nose section and fitted the parts together, amazingly, they all fit. Tomorrow night I'll scribe the lines into the surface. Then it will be the canopy sections turn to get finished.

Re: Re-starting Avro Arrow build

The nose section is all done, panel lines nicely scribed and it fits smoothly between the nacelles. So tonight, the canopy is being worked on, I got four coats of resin applied, tomorrow night, it too will get the panel line treatment. The intake sections are waiting their turn which will hopefully be this weekend.
