Our club in Burlington, ON for years used a Deere riding mower, and then a second one. We then purchased a proper grass cutter (Toro) which allows the field to be done in about half the time compared to two riding mowers. Cost was aboput $7K, gets serviced every year for about $600 - $700 and gradually written off. At the end of about 7 years, we trade it in for a new one, since we allow for this in our budget.
The proper grass cutter does a better job than the smaller riding mowers, is faster, and maintenance is less expensive as the riders are not really meant for heavy duty work.

Re: What does your club do for grass cutting?

We have two zero-turn mowers we bought used to cut the main runway and we bush-hog the rest with a club member's tractor. The best thing we did was to put in a petro-mat runway so we don't have to be too picky about the quality of the mowing job--there's a smooth runway for take offs and grass for slowing down on landing roll outs.
