Exactly! They were a huge hit at my parents place during a visit. You can buy the infrared gun for them but to implement it the same way on a bigger heli would be a difficult task. Now there is a great challenge for someone capable!

thanks again
my son and i are going to enjoy learning this hobby together.

yes i am buying 2
If you think you son will have enough interest to go into bigger heli in the future, DO NOT buy the S107 or similar helicopter. Very nice and fun helicopter toy. Actually the s107 (bought in a pawn shop) is what got me into the hobby and then I bought a second hand blade 400. It was hell for me. Those 3 channel + helicopter have the throttle on the left and the forward-rear and clockwise-counterclockwise motion on the right side. Mode 2 radios (The standard for North America) The throttle and clockwise-counterclockwise is on the left stick and the forward-rear and side to side movement on the left. Once you brain is linked to you finger from repetitive movement you are finished and you must work hard to relearn the movement and create a new brain to finger link. So at the beginning everytime I wanted to tail to turn and align with me, instead I had the heli flying sideways, Very hard to learn how to hover in these conditions.

My personal take on it, is buy a simulator (Phoenix RC) first ... maybe couple it with a single rotor fixed pitch and see how he progresses. This will help keep costs down until you know whether or not he'll be hooked, but also give maximum fun for quite a while if he does get hooked.
