Video, osd, fpv?

ok, i'm getting into multi's and i would like to have a camera, not for fpv but for photography. i have a camera with live av output, and i'll be using the megapirateng mega all-in-one fc. what i NEED is live video transmitted to my laptop. what i would like is to have telemetry as well, though not necessary. i don't want fpv goggles, and it would be nice to not have to carry another portable monitor, when i'm going to have my laptop there anyway with the mission planner. the quality of the image is not important, because the images will be stored right on the camera, i only need to see what i'm filming. i have looked at all sorts of fpv and osd stuff and all i've done is learned a bunch of abbreviations.
help please

Re: Video, osd, fpv?

What you need is a product called the "easycap". It's a doodad that uses standard RCA cables on one side, and USB on the other. connect it to the laptop with the software running, and you have your live feed to the laptop. It's cheap too, but I wasn't able to find it anywhere when I went looking. Good luck.

As for telemetry, youtube will show you what the displays look like for each brand OSD. Pick one you like and run with it. I use the dragon OSD.

Re: Video, osd, fpv?

Use normal fpv rx/tx and then one these to get video display/recording on pc

I have two of these for personal and professional industrial video work, have built 2-3 system based on them for clients, simple with good software tools out of box, really simple for custom software development also

Also a couple similar things at tigerdirect

Go to and search "easycap". I have not used it myself but I was researching exactly what you are proposing to do and this was recommended.

Re: Video, osd, fpv?

Sorry to put your fire out but easy cap does NOT record through video multipathing.

Also there is video latency when "recording/streaming" from easy cap.

It's cheap for a reason!

Wildernessbob, PM me and if you want we can chat about options/aims over the phone or Skype
