Which EDF unit to use for 70mm F9F
I was wandering which unit will give more power to my 70mm F9F Panther RC Lander.
...I would prefer a 5s option as I have 5s batteries but will also consider the 6s option if the difference in power is worth it.. Looking at these two but open to other suggestions - I saw the 10 blade one and I really like the sound and power: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s..._1200watt.html http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...0watt_6s_.html Or this setup for 5S: - Do I need any cooling fins for this motor..? http://www.hobby-paradise.com/en/pro...ct_detail.html http://www.hobby-paradise.com/en/pro...ct_detail.html Last edited by bobmic; 11-04-2012 at 08:05 PM. |

Re: Which EDF unit to use for 70mm F9F
I wouldn't even consider using any 5 or 6 blade fans after using the higher blade count type. The sound difference is remarkable. Your second link is likely the best choice as Lander edfs come dynamically balanced saving you a lot of trouble.
It is 6s and will give quite a lot more thrust than on 5s. This will allow more flying at lower throttle settings but plenty for when you need it. 75 bucks is cheap for a ready to run fan. Cheers

Re: Which EDF unit to use for 70mm F9F
Thank you,
Do I need a high C battery for the 6s 10 blade setup or will it perform even witha 25-30c? |

Re: Which EDF unit to use for 70mm F9F
C ratings are very seldom reliable. Most of the HK batteries are way over rated. When they say 30C, they should handle a 90A load without breaking a sweat yet most will begin to suffer damage. Now they have have some 60+ rated batteries and they seem to work. Having tried many brands from HK I am now looking elsewhere. This past year I have been very happy with the performance from the Gens Ace brand. I tried their 25C 6S 5500mah batteries and they have over 30 cycles with no puffing and very little heat generated during my flights. I do push my batteries pretty hard as do most EDF fliers. When I am not flying I make sure to keep in storage charge after having a number of high rated batteries fail storing them fully charged.
So your answer depends completely on the brand of battery...
