Flying field vandalism

Any clubs here have any issues with vandalism? My flying field was the unfortunate recipient of mindless vandalism a few days ago. They did not touch any of the picnic tables or the shelter but the runway is totally destroyed and will be plowed, tilled and reseeded in the spring. Luckily, the @#$@#%'s were caught on scene by the RCMP and charges have been laid. So frustrating to see as I am the landowner. I built the club from scratch on my own dime for the community to use free of charge. I am going to get some quotes on repairs in the next few days. I estimate the damages to be in the 10,000$ range (if a landscaping company were to do the repairs).

I swear this could have been on an episode of "small town dumbest criminals" because it makes it really hard to get away with a crime when you leave your iphone behind at the scene of said crime. Also, when trying to flee from a crime, try and avoid the ditches.

I have been in involved in R/C aeromodeling for 20 years and this is by far the worst vandalism I have seen at a R/C field.

Re: Flying field valdalism

That is just unbelievable Mark, I feel really bad for you guy's. I'm sure glad you caught loosers who did it.
I'm afraid this could easily happen to my field as well.

These types I like to call ''waste of skin'' will always exist.
It would be nice to make them fix the strip as new but unfortunately they wouldn't have the brains to carry out the task.

Re: Flying field valdalism

Wouldn't you just love to tear a strip off them. Sorry to see that happen. We have similar occurrences at our field,. Fortunately we have a paved runway, but they still tear up the grass strip beside it.

No respect for other people's property anymore.....

Yup, take them to small claims court, doesn't matter how much time it takes, let 'em stress out until they pay up. That is the best punishment you can hope for!

Re: Flying field valdalism

I feel for you Mark, really sorry to see what happened to you field, as Bill said it can happen to anyone of us here but i'm glad those idiots got caught in the end....they could have found another open field to do there fanatic doughnuts but its unfortunate it happened to be your flying field....

Here is an option: Since we are all in this hobby and feel the same way as u r presently, how about you get the estimate and we all here on RCC chip in say $20 bucks per member in aircraft section to support you rebuild your field again....I'm sure we have enough membership here to help you out with 1/2 to 3/4th the repair costs....make a account in trust through ur bank and most on here can EMT you funds from outside ur area or send MO, what do you and rest of membership think of this suggested option, don't forget, some day God forbid, this may happen to us also, if we support each other, it will an great example for all others.....I'll be first one to support with $30 bucks!

Re: Flying field valdalism

I think you should push the courts to ensure community service is in order. They should be responsible to repair the damage. Maybe a hit in to pocket book for the repair as well as free grass cutting for the next 3 years.

How big is your flying field?

Re: Flying field valdalism

The Arnprior club that I fly at get this treatment just about every year it seems. Usually we come back in the spring to find it's been wrecked. Runway looks like that, picnic tables torn apart and dragged down the runway, etc.

We tried putting up cameras, but they spotted 'em.

We're at the point of talking about digging ditches around the field and hiding them with brush. People are retarded.
