Re: 2 beautiful airplanes

Yes, 2 very beautiful aircraft.

I have always wondered what kind of rampage the Bearcat could have gone on in the Pacific theater during WWII. It was the most impressive warbird of that era. Its performance was staggering (for a prop plane). The war ended before it could go operational.

Japanese fighters would have gone down in droves under the guns of the baddest "cat" to come out of Grumman!

It was beautiful then and still is today

Re: 2 beautiful airplanes

Thanks' Bill I enjoyed that. I was lucky enough to attend the Manitoba Centennial Air show One of the acts was the Forenof's, a father son team that flew Bearcats. They flew a very impressive show, doing many maneuvers with the wing tip to prop a constant five feet. The father did a maneuver called a top hat. Pull straight up half roll across the top straight down with a half roll and pull out. It was a very impressive show. Apparently the props are so long that wheel landings are out of the question. Nice video.

Re: 2 beautiful airplanes

Was at the airshow as well. My employer opened up hangar space for several of the heavy iron machines for overnights. The bearcats were inside as well. Had a great chat with Corky, a prince of a fellow. His old man, not so much. A super weekend. One of our chopper pilots had both Douglas Bader and Adolf Galland on board for the flight to St Andrews.

Re: 2 beautiful airplanes

Bader and Galland were certainly great friends, after the war, I was very lucky to meet Galland in Germany before his passing. What an amazing man to listen to! Love the Bearcat, I've got an old Red Box Top Flite Kit, I've got it well underway, and one of these days she'll take flight. Big radials rock, for sure.

Re: 2 beautiful airplanes

Two of my favorite warbirds, one of the other ones being the Sea Fury. I am fotunate two have seen both of those airplanes in the first video flying at the Abbotsford Airshow. The Tigercat in 2007 and 2009, and the Bearcat in 2010. Here is some video footage I took at those shows
