Friendly Battery Warning

Hi

I just thought I would share my recent experience, to remind others

My HK order finally arrived and it contained some batteries for 2 small indoor helicoptors that i havent flown in a few months are really miss flying them around my spare bedroom. both the helicoptor and the battery connector are such that they only go in one way. I opened the box and, opened the batteries and plugged them into the cheap charger that came with the heli's. wait a few seconds the lights not comming on look closer its on but dim unplug and I can smell that electrical burning smell. put the batteries in a lipo bag for a bit, they are only one cell batteries so i was not too concerned but took the precaution anyways. after an hour I found the problem. the battery was wired backwards compared to the heli and the charger..

my lesson of the day. check polarity before using a new battery, luckily the smoke just came out of the cheap charger and nothing else.

Re: Friendly Battery Warning

Over sea`s the poles must be reversed
I sold clear tail light kits for cars a few years back and we installed some in my dads truck. They blew the parking light fuse and we found they were wired backwards

Too bad about your charger but its a good thing it did not cause a fire . Thanks for the tip I will have to keep a check on the battery polarity with the cheaper batteries.

Re: Friendly Battery Warning

Bummer, Chuck. So you found out about "Magic Smoke", eh?

As I was notified my battery order came in yesterday and I have to pick them up will have to check them over. Prior orders had no problem, but they were all 3 or 4 cell packs.

I just had a boo and the smallest charger I have is an ESKY 2/3-cell. Would have sent it to you if I thought it would work.

Re: Friendly Battery Warning

Thanks Gary.

The charger probably never should of had the majic smoke in it, but it did work. I think my better ones would of prevented this from happening, or let out more smoke.

if the pack has Deans I always check everything else I never did, and it never occured to me to check until now.

It's not the fact that HK, is located overseas that caused the reversal....it happened because they they're in the opposite hemisphere, LOL!
